Piscataway
Santos U10 travel team led by Head Coach, Scott Marshall and Assistant
Coach, Chris Blount ended their fall season with a 9-1 record. They did
not go undefeated on the field with a 3-2 loss to Edison but their heart
was unmatched. The team is just that… a unit that consists of eleven
boys that have learned what it means to be unselfish; sacrifice for the
greater good of team; sportsmanship and community.
The
team is more than eleven players. It also includes of all the moms,
dads, sisters, brothers, grandparents and friends that support the team
in 90 or 30 degree weather. This fall the Santos family wanted to give
back to the community by selling pink soccer socks in support of Breast
Cancer Awareness month. The entire team (and their coach) wore their
pink socks with pride throughout the month of October. They also
inspired other travel and instructional teams to participate in the
fundraiser that benefited the American Cancer Society.
The
team’s good sportsmanship was recognized by a fellow Piscataway soccer
parent in an email to Coach Marshall: “You should be proud of your team
and you should be proud of your parents and yourself for giving the boys
the opportunity to thrive in their passion for soccer. It was an
absolute pleasure to watch.”
Rutgers
Men’s Soccer team welcomed the Santos family to join the team on game
day, including a tour of the locker room and team facility, walk on to
the field with the players, official ball boys during the game and a
half-time scrimmage. Rutgers Head Coach Dan Donigan was very
complimentary of the Santos team and encouraged the boys to continue to
do well in school and on the field.
Off
the field the team has developed a special friendship with eleven year
old London Randolph who was diagnosed this year with Ewing Sarcoma, a
form of bone cancer. The team made London an honorary Santos team
member.
The
team continues to develop their skills on the field, more importantly
each player has a personal commitment to focus on what they can control -
Performance, Excellence and Attitude. The Santos team is looking
forward to the Spring 2015 season.
